July and August Highlights from The Raleigh Music Collective

RMC Summer Newsletter

July and August have been filled with music, community, and plenty to celebrate at The Raleigh Music Collective. From wrapping up our summer programming and an unforgettable week of Summer Camp to preparing for a new school year, our students and teaching artists have made the most of these final weeks of summer.

Here's a look at what we've been up to — and what's coming next!

Summer Camp 2026 Highlights

We had an amazing final week of July at our Summer Camp! Our students had the opportunity to work on music by Mahler, Mozart, and Prokofiev, as well as music by the incredible living composer Armond Vance.

Summer Camp is always an important week for our students to grow, challenge themselves, and advance their skills. With five full days of music-making, they have the chance to make significant progress before ending the week with a Final Concert where they can share everything they’ve worked on.

But it’s not all music! Our students also enjoyed a movie, performed in our Talent Show, played soccer and volleyball outside, and, most importantly, had plenty of time to have fun with their friends.

Celebrating Lia at YOLA National Festival! 🎻

We are so proud of RMC violist Lia Wilson, who was selected to participate in the 2026 YOLA National Festival in Los Angeles!

Presented by the LA Phil, YOLA National brings together young musicians from El Sistema-inspired programs across the country for an intensive week of orchestral training, collaboration, and performance. Students have the opportunity to learn alongside peers from across the U.S., work with exceptional faculty and guest artists, and perform at Walt Disney Concert Hall.

We need your support!

We have an ambitious fundraising goal this season and we need our community behind us! By helping us reach our $25,000 goal, you can play an important role in maximizing RMC’s fundraising opportunity through our partnership with Band Together.

We Received a Summer Now! Grant! 🎉

We’re excited to share that The Raleigh Music Collective received a Summer Now! grant from El Sistema USA to support our 2026 summer programming! This funding helped make our Summer Camp possible, giving our students an intensive week of music-making, learning, and connection.

Beginner Strings Bootcamp Starts Next Week! 🎻

Over four consecutive days, our newest RMC students will participate in Beginner Strings Bootcamp, designed to help them build a strong foundation and prepare for a successful transition into the Fall semester.

We launched this initiative last year and saw a significant improvement in our beginners’ success during their first few months of learning an instrument. We’re excited to welcome a new group of young musicians and give them the tools and confidence to start their musical journey!

This program is funded in part by the City of Raleigh based on recommendations of the Raleigh Arts Commission. / Este programa está financiado en parte por la Ciudad de Raleigh basado las recomendaciones de la Comisión de Artes de Raleigh.

Confidence doesn’t always arrive with a bold entrance. Sometimes, it builds quietly, step by step, as we show up for ourselves day after day. It grows when we choose to try, even when we’re unsure of the outcome. Every time you take action despite self-doubt, you reinforce the belief that you’re capable. Confidence isn’t about having all the answers — it’s about trusting that you can figure it out along the way.

The key to making things happen isn’t waiting for the perfect moment; it’s starting with what you have, where you are. Big goals can feel overwhelming when viewed all at once, but momentum builds through small, consistent action. Whether you’re working toward a personal milestone or a professional dream, progress comes from showing up — not perfectly, but persistently. Action creates clarity, and over time, those steps forward add up to something real.

You don’t need to be fearless to reach your goals, you just need to be willing. Willing to try, willing to learn, and willing to believe that you’re capable of more than you know. The road may not always be smooth, but growth rarely is. What matters most is that you keep going, keep learning, and keep believing in the version of yourself you’re becoming.
